The Foolproof Way to Determine Your Real Body Type
This is the time of year when we start shedding our clothes and pulling out our spring, summer wardrobe. It is also the time when we like to shop and freshen up our look with new styles and new colors.
Working with my clients, I find they’re challenged in selecting clothes for their own unique body type. If you are in an executive position, you will want to get this right. We tend to go shopping because we need something new, but I find that people don’t really put a lot of thought in what they need vs. what they want.
Most of us will say “oh I have nothing to wear to this party on Saturday” and wait till Saturday to go shopping and at that time you are so stressed out because you didn’t find that one outfit that would make you look and feel great. Instead, you end up settling on something that will just do.
Have you determined which shape is yours?
Here are suggestions on what best suits your shape:
An Pear Body Shape
If not maybe this will help, a triangle body shape sometimes is referred to as a pear shape, when the hips and thighs appear to be the widest area of the body. The silhouette line from the shoulders to the waist either cuts in at the waist or goes straight down and outward. Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Lopez are among the pear-shaped beauties.
Knee length shorts are the most flattering to wear for this body type, shorts that land just above the knee helps elongate your thighs. Stay away from patterns, pleats or cuffs- anything that may draw attention to your legs.
An Inverted Triangle Body Shape
The inverted triangle is opposite, when the bust and shoulders are wider than your hips. Broad, athletic shoulders and slim hips are characteristic of this shape. Shorts for this body shape are opposite of the triangle, you want to wear shorts that will add volume to your lower half to balance out your over all shape. So cargo’s and shorts with embellishments are acceptable.
The Hourglass Body Shape
Hourglass is how we visualize the ideal female shape, with a small waist, full bust and shapely hips, Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Vergara are great examples of this shape. Best short style for this body shape is flat front with side zip, plain, straight or flared.
A Rectangular Shape
Rectangle does not have a waist. The line from the shoulders past the bust and waist to the hips is essentially a straight line. Your bust and hips are close to the same width. You can be quite flexible in your choices but opt for low to mid-waist options that flow in the leg line. Flare, wide leg or boot cut.
An Oval Body Shape
Oval is sometimes referred to as the apple, when you waist is larger than your bust and hips. You carry the majority of your weight in the front of your body similar to a pregnant woman. Flat front, wide leg and should not cling to the body.
Don’t be a victim to your summer wardrobe, enhance your best assets and have fun this summer looking your best.
